Jane Chalmers
Jane grew up with a large love for art and dabbled in most mediums, but it wasn’t until she was at high school that she discovered photography when they introduced an introductory course. That was it, she was hooked!
Eventually Jane went to college to study photography in depth at George Street School of Art in Dumfries. She wanted to know how it all worked; how one could capture a moment in time when life nowadays is so busy. 'I don’t think of my job as work, I love it too much, but it is hard work and long hours as us photographers are so picky!'
Jane believes living in the countryside helps a creative mind, so after years of living in towns and villages she moved to the beautiful area of Tundergarth, near Lockerbie, and has been there ever since.
After graduating with an HND with merits Jane turned her hand to many different types of photography work, from modeling portfolios to children and animals to working with the BBC in their comic relief / sport relief campaign. Although enjoying such areas, her passion lies in studio work experimenting in creating abstract images and developing different series of images from all kinds of everyday elements.
Rather than painting with brushes, Jane paints with light; 'I would love nothing more than to take the stigma away from photographers as we do indeed have a true place in the art world...'
