Kenneth Ikin
Kenneth Ikin's collection of contemporary abstract work shines with an inner light and draws you in to contemplate the artist’s response to his environment.
Born and raised in Sussex, Kenneth studied at West Sussex then Manchester Art Colleges. After graduating he worked at Manchester University for a while, and then returned to college to gain his teaching qualification.
In 2004 Kenneth left behind a busy life as a teacher of art and ceramics in Northhampton to move to Dalbeattie with his wife Elizabeth, where he now has the time to develop his own career as an artist.
Kenneth’s inspiration is triggered by a diverse range of stimuli - music, stories of heroic deeds and events in his surroundings:
“In my paintings, I try to express reactions to life’s unseen experiences – shadows, echoes and fragments of perception. My technique is very direct. Mostly I use a knife, producing heavily textured surfaces, which suggest the energy with which the paint is applied. Unforeseen effects often bring their own force to the progress of a work.”
