Venus Griffiths
Venus is a sought after Cumbrian artist who exhibits in several galleries throughout the country. The name Venus comes from her maternal grandmother, which to the relief of her daughters has not been inflicted on further generations.
She was awarded a scholarship to Wakefield Art College. Whilst in Nottingham she taught art to full time students as well as running art workshops. In 1988 Venus moved to Keswick and took on a teaching position running an art workshop for Lairthwaite area education centre. She also set up her studio at home working in watercolours, acrylic and screen printing.
Venus has now given up teaching to concentrate fully on producing her own work. She does not allow prints of her art work to be made and Devorgilla Gallery is the only gallery in the south of Scotland to exhibit her originals.
‘Colour is the way I communicate my feelings about images I paint and print.’
